This page provides information on the release of documents formerly withheld under Presidential Records Act restrictions P-2 (appointment to federal office) and P-5 (confidential advice between the President and his advisors of between those advisors). The George Bush Library will open these documents on a rolling basis over the course of several months. This page will be updated as the documents are released.
When the documents are released, they will be available for inspection in the research room of the George Bush Library. The research room is open from Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you would like copies of any documents listed below, please email the George Bush Library at Library.Bush@nara.gov or call (979) 691-4041 (M-F, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CDT). There is a fifty cents per page charge for copying. When ordering documents, please reference the NLGB control number of each document to ensure accurate processing.
The Bush Library will refile these documents in their original folders as soon as possible. In the meantime, we are pleased to provide them to researchers. Please note that until the refilling is complete, the documents will not have any context i.e., other documents in the folder will not provide background for the released documents. We encourage researchers to view the entire contents of individual folders (including the formerly restricted materials) during the course of their research.
Please select the links below to download indexes of the released documents. For each release, the Bush Library will provide a master list together with lists of Staff and Office Files and White House Office of Records Management Subject Files. Please find a detailed explanation of the Subject File categories at here.
This concludes the release of George Bush Presidential Records and Dan Quayle Vice Presidential Records formerly restricted as P2 or P5. For questions about these documents, please contact the Bush Library reference line at 979-691-4041.
